In what most expected to be a close matchup, the Baltimore Ravens blew out the visiting Detroit Lions 38-6.
This was not a close game at really any point
The stark difference in first-half performance is what ultimately decided the game. The Ravens were able to score early and often while the Lions started the game with three consecutive three-and-outs. Baltimore scored touchdowns on their first four drives as they raced out to a 28-0 lead midway in the 2nd quarter. The Ravens could have scored a fifth, but a Lamar Jackson fumble on Detroit’s 25-yard line brought the drive to a premature end. The second half saw the Ravens get back on track, covering 94 yards on four plays in just over minutes. This was Baltimore’s final touchdown drive of the game, but Justin Tucker was able to tack on an additional three points after Detroit’s lone touchdown of the game.
A Signature Performance From Lamar Jackson
Besides the fumble, Jackson could not be stopped in the contest. Jackson threw four 357 yards on a 21-27 passing day with three interceptions. The Ravens’ franchise quarterback managed to do some damage on the ground too, rushing for 36 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Even though Baltimore did not need a superhero-caliber performance from Jackson to come out on top, it is encouraging to see him put together an elite performance against one of the league’s better defensive units.
Looking Ahead
Baltimore heads out on the road to take on a very beatable Cardinals team. The Ravens should be able to care of business in Arizona quite easily. However, it must be mentioned that this is a team that previously dropped a game to the lowly Indianapolis Colts. It is possible, but not likely, that history repeats itself, especially after a lopsided win over Detroit.
