7 takeaways from the Lions loss to the Ravens

Yardbarker

Well, that wasn’t fun  for anyone outside of Baltimore. The Detroit Lions got manhandled by the Ravens in 38-6 loss. Just bury this one in the desert and move on.

As always I have thoughts on this game. These are those thoughts:

28 yard pass to a fullback

The Lions defense looked pretty bad on Sunday, but the thing that was the absolute worst was watching Ravens’ fullback Patrick Ricard get wide open and break off a 28 yard play.

Worst defensive half ever?

The Ravens absolutely had their way with the Lions defense in the firs half of this game. The Ravens put up 353 yards, 18 first downs and 28 points on the Lions defense in the first half. The Lions just couldn’t stop anything at all. Receivers were wide open, tight ends were wide open and, as I pointed out above, fullbacks were wide open.

The Lions also allowed a team to get to 100 yards rushing for the first time this season. Just the worst half of football this team has played in a very long time. What’s crazy is that it was a 5-1 team doing this and not a 1-5 team.

Offensive line woes

This was a bad outing for this group as well. Jared Goff got sacked five times and Penei Sewell had two drive killing holding calls on plays that would have been first downs for the Lions. This whole team was off as a group. It wasn’t just one player or one unit. It was everyone.

Goff Report

Not a good game from Jared Goff. He got hit a lot in this game and just couldn’t get anything going in the pass game. After putting together a long string of good games, Goff had a pretty bad outing. He finished the day going 33/53 for 284 yards and an interception.

Brad Holmes needs to get on the phone

If this team really wants to compete this year, they need to beef up. They need to be big time buyers. The Lions need help in the pass rush and they desperately need help in the secondary. They can not afford to be conservative this year.

Let me say a positive thing

Jahmyr Gibbs played really well in this game. He finished the day with 126 total yards and a touchdown. That’s positive.

This is not the end of the world

I know that you think it is and that nothing that anyone says will change your mind on that. I get it, it feels better to be mad sometimes. Good teams lose sometimes. They even get blown out from time to time. You won’t believe that either, but it’s true. You’ll probably say “not like this.” Yeah, like this. I assure that this is not the first time in the NFL’s 103 year history that a team with a winning record got their asses handed to them by another team with a winning record. There’s 10 games left in this season and the Lions have looked very good this year.

The season isn’t over today and this loss doesn’t mean the Lions are a bad team. It just means they played against a much better team. That’s it.
