The Detroit Lions have a 53-man active roster. So when eight players are out from practice injured, it’s a pretty fair assessment that the team is banged up.
The unpleasant news on the injury front kept coming from Thursday’s practice session. Tight end Sam LaPorta joined the list of Lions who sat out the portion of practice open to the media. He and center Frank Ragnow, who was getting his customary veteran rest day, joined the six Lions who also sat out Wednesday’s practice.

- DB Brian Branch (ankle)
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring)
- LG Jonah Jackson (ankle)
- RB Zonovan Knight (shoulder)
- TE James Mitchell (hamstring)
- CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee)
Moseley is expected to be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL, so he doesn’t figure into the Week 6 plans. Knight could be headed to I.R. as well.
There was no early indication of what caused LaPorta to miss practice. The Lions listed him with a calf injury.
Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was listed as a full participant with his abdominal injury. Left tackle Taylor Decker also practiced in full for the first time with his high ankle sprain.
