Detroit Lions sign CB Tae Hayes after Jarren Williams leaves with leg injury

Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Lions signed cornerback Tae Hayes on Friday, one day after Jarren Williams suffered a potentially serious leg injury.

Hayes has appeared in 19 games over his four-year career, including two with the New England Patriots last season. He also has played for the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Williams hurt his right leg during Thursday’s controlled scrimmage while covering Maurice Alexander on a pass route. He had to be carted off the field.

The Lions also are currently without safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who has missed the past two practices with a knee injury.

After a practice Saturday, an off day Sunday and a walk-through Monday, the Lions host the New York Giants for joint practices next week ahead of their exhibition opener against the Giants at Ford Field on Aug. 11.
