C.J. Gardner-Johnson “seems to be OK” after leaving practice with a knee injury Monday, but Gardner-Johnson isn’t the only Detroit Lion who will sit out practice Tuesday.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said wide receiver Jameson Williams will miss practice with a leg injury he suffered Monday.
“He’s got a little something with his leg so he probably won’t go for a day or two here either,” Campbell said. “I don’t think it’s significant, but it’s enough where he’s not going to practice.”
Williams has had an inauspicious start to his NFL career. He missed the first 11 games of last season while recovering from a college knee injury and had more drops (three) than catches (one) once he hit the field.
Williams was suspended six games this offseason for violating the NFL’s gambling policy and will not be eligible to play for the Lions until late October. For that reason, the team has pointed to training camp and preseason games this summer as an important part of Williams’ development.
The No. 12 pick of last year’s draft, Williams was one of the most explosive receivers in college football during his lone season at Alabama, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the Tide’s national championship game loss to Georgia.

The Lions return Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond from last season, added Marvin Jones in free agency and traded for Denzel Mims, but Williams is expected to contribute as a deep threat once healthy and able to get on the field this fall.
Gardner-Johnson, who was carted off the field with a knee injury Monday, underwent an MRI after practice that Campbell said Tuesday “looked pretty good.”
“It appears to be that he’s going to be OK,” Campbell said. “It doesn’t appear to be anything serious. So we’ll see the images look pretty good. He may be out a day or two, but seems to be OK.”
