Amon-Ra St. Brown glad for timing of Lions bye week to get ankle right

SideLion Report

After missing a game and playing on an ankle injury, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is glad for the timing of the bye week.

After Sunday’s 29-0 loss to the New England Patriots, the bye week is coming at a good time for the 1-4 Detroit Lions. Coaches need to reassess, and players need to get healthy. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (right ankle) is among those banged up players who could use a week off.

St. Brown missed Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks, before suiting up against the Patriots. He didn’t play a lot (21 snaps), and lackluster production followed (four catches for 18 yards). It matched the second-worst game of his career for the second-year man.

It’s not shocking to realize St. Brown did not want to miss another game, though he said he’s dealing with a high ankle sprain and that’s an injury that often requires a multi-week absence

After the game, St. Brown acknowledged he was not 100 percent. But the percentage he put on his health was good enough in his estimation to give it a go.

Via Kyle Meinke of MLive:

Didn’t practice too much, but I felt 85%, so thought I’d give it a go,” St. Brown said.

He also acknowledged the benefit of the Lions’ bye week being this week.

I think it’s going to help me a lot for sure, especially with the injury I have,” St. Brown said. “It’ll linger if you keep going, so just giving it a rest. Like I said, I knew I had this bye week coming up, so that’s why it made sense to give it a go.”

The bye week will help St. Brown and a bunch of other key Lions’ offensive players (D’Andre Swift, Josh Reynolds, DJ Chark) get healthy before a tough Week 7-9 stretch against the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers.
