Former NFL player Damian Gregory is among a class of seven individuals and one team set to join the Sexton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Gregory joins Robert Campbell, Floyd Eaton, Chuck Ginther, Janice Norris, Jackie Burton and Angela Swain-Stepter as part of the class being inducted on Sept. 16. The 1982 girls track and field team coached by Georgia Old and Sherman Bennett is also being inducted.
The induction ceremony is slated to take place from 5-6:30 p.m. The inductees will be introduced during halftime of Sexton’s football game against Lansing Catholic.
Gregory was a football star before going on to play collegiately at Indiana and Illinois State. The defensive lineman played six years professionally, which included stints with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
Campbell, a Sexton grad, taught and coached at his alma mater from 1943 to 1977. He led the 1955 state champion baseball team and also was part of the staff for some strong football teams. Campbell played football at Michigan in the late 1930s.
Norris and Burton and Swain-Stepter were track standouts and part of the successful 1982 squad. Ginther was the 1956 state wrestling champion and also starred in football. Eaton was a state wrestling champion in 1947-48 and part of Sexton’s state championship team.
The 1982 track team went undefeated in duals and won CAC and Class A regional championships.
