Detroit Lions Edge Julian Okwara Returns To Practice, Amani Oruwariye, Austin Bryant No Practice

Lions Nation Unite
The Detroit Lions are ready for the regular season as they take part in their first practice after cutting the roster down to 53. Now that preseason is officially done, it is time to get into regular season mode. Here are some notable observations from practice.

First, edge defender Julian Okwara returned to practice after being injured on August 4th, 2022. This is big news for Detroit since Okwara was a big contributor on the defensive line in 2021 recording 5 sacks. Perfect time for him to return since week 1 versus the Eagles is less than two weeks away.

Last Week, coach Dan Campbell spoke about Okwara and his availability against the Eagles

“We’re hoping for Philly that he’ll be back,” Campbell said. “He’s probably got the best shot out of all of them to be ready for Philly.”

Not everything is good regarding the injury front. Players who were present for practice but did not participate are three starters and one backup.

S Ifeatu Melifonwu
CB Amani Oruwariye
TE T.J. Hockenson
EDGE Austin Bryant

Ifeatu Melifonwu has not practiced since August 8, 2022, so his lack of participation is not a surprise. Since we have starters at safety in Tracy Walker and DeShon Elliott, the Lions can afford to let him rest.

Amani Oruwariye is more of a concern since he is the number one starting cornerback for the Lions, his lack of practice should hurt the team’s performance if he were to not suit up against the Eagles.

T.J. Hockenson has been getting veteran rest throughout training camp and his inability to practice today, seems to be the reason why.

Austin Bryant was a full go versus the Steelers and played more snaps than most in that game, this looks to be another veteran rest day. No worries.

As the Lions get ready for the Eagles week 1, Lions Nation Unite will continue to keep updated regarding the health of the team.
