The Detroit Lions had success with an Oregon Duck in last year’s draft, and here are three former teammates of Penei Sewell they could draft this year.

The Detroit Lions could have gone any direction with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Offensive tackle Penei Sewell was their choice, and he had an excellent rookie season (even if he wasn’t thrilled about his performance).

Lions’ fans surely remember a huge miss with a former Oregon Duck a long time ago, but we won’t dive back into the Joey Harrington era too much. The Ducks will have players drafted this April, and the Lions should have some interest in a few of them.

On that note, here are three former teammates of Penei Sewell’s in Eugene the Lions could draft in April. It’s worth noting Sewell opted out of his final season at Oregon in 2020, so these would teammates from the 2019 season.

3. DE Kayvon Thibodeaux

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. Recent buzz has Thibodeaux perhaps falling a bit, but if the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t take him No. 1 he’ll be in play for the Lions at No. 2. Compared to Aidan Hutchinson, he’s got more raw upside and Detroit needs pass rush help very badly.

I expect correction in Thibodeaux’s draft stock as time goes along, back to the mix as a lock to go among the first three picks. He’s likely the subject of teams putting misinformation out there right now, in the hope he falls to them. In any case, Detroit will have the chance to take him second overall.
