The Detroit Lions used the No. 7 pick in the NFL Draft to pick up Penei Sewell, who was a Lions fan as a child thanks to Calvin Johnson.

Offensive lineman Penei Sewell dropped to No. 7 in the NFL Draft, but he’s definitely not complaining.

The Lions used their first-round pick to snatch up the big-time offensive linemen after multiple teams passed on him in favor of others.

It’s a match made in heaven as Detroit could really use some help on the offensive line and Sewell grew up a Lions fan as a lover of underdogs.

Detroit can thank Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best for drawing in Sewell via the Madden video games.

Sewell and his family were absolutely stocked about the pick.

Jared Goff should also be pretty pumped right now. Having Sewell around should make his life much easier as the Lions’ quarterback in 2021.

Sewell is Detroit’s first Top 10 pick for the offensive line since Lomas Brown in 1985. Brown ended up starting 163 games with the Lions with seven Pro Bowl appearances. If Sewell matches that, then the pick will have paid off in a huge way.

No wonder the Lions’ war room was celebrating so vigorously.
