Whenever Dan Campbell is officially named the Detroit Lions’ next head coach, he’ll be bringing along at least one staff member from the New Orleans Saints.

The Lions are expected to add Saints defensive back coach Aaron Glenn as their next defensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Glenn, 48, has coached the Saints’ backfield since 2016, and worked as an assistant DB coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2014–15. His top pupil is cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who has made three Pro Bowls in four seasons since the Saints drafted him in the first round out of Ohio State in 2017.

Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah endorsed the move, writing on Twitter: “My 7V7 Coach at @TheOpening back in HS! Let’s get to it” with a fist emoji.

Glenn played 15 seasons in the league at cornerback and was a three-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection. The New York Jets drafted him 12th overall in the 1994 draft out of Texas A&M. Despite being 5 feet 9, he finished his career with 41 interceptions, six returned for touchdowns. He played for the Jets (1994–2001), Houston Texans (2002–04), Dallas Cowboys (2005–06), Jacksonville Jaguars (2007) and Saints (2008).

Glenn interviewed with the Jets and Tennessee Titans for their head coaching vacancies Jan. 11.

The Lions are free to hire Campbell, the Saints’ assistant head coach and tight ends coach, after New Orleans was eliminated from the playoffs Sunday.
